An increase in the worldwide supply of crude oil contributed to dip in U.S. prices at the gas pump over the last two weeks, an industry analyst said Sunday from Camarillo. Between Oct. 22 and Friday, the combined national average price for all grades of gasoline dropped to $2.04, down 2.6 cents from the previous two weeks, said Trilby Lundberg, who publishes the semimonthly Lundberg Survey of 7,000 gas stations across the country.
N.Y.: EBay sellers to pay in bid cases
Eight eBay sellers were ordered to pay nearly $90,000 in restitution and fines after admitting they bid up products online to inflate the prices. New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer said more than 120 people will receive restitution in the settlement of the three cases, which wrapped up last week in state courts. Three sellers were accused of making 610 bids on 106 of their car auctions under the user name “Mother’s Custom Automotive NY Dealer.” In another case, the operator of an art auction house and two former employees were accused of bidding on more than 1,100 of each others’ eBay items for more than five years to drive up the prices. The other two defendants were accused of making 170 phony bids on their sports memorabilia items.

Florida: Special Olympics bus threat
An Ellenton motel manager was charged with holding a bus of Special Olympics athletes at gunpoint after a dispute about where the group should park. John Embry, 47, was charged with aggravated assault and false imprisonment and was being held Sunday without bail, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office said. Embry, manager of the Sleep Inn, held the bus at gunpoint for 10 minutes Friday while the children lay on the floor because he did not want the bus parked in the motel’s small lot, police said.
