PORT ANGELES — U.S. Border Patrol officials say a new station in Port Angeles will include maritime and air protection for the sea border between Washington state and Canada.
Deputy Chief Patrol Agent Joseph Giuliano says the air and marine patrols will cover the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the San Juan Islands. He says the exact location of the station and the number of agents has not been determined. The station will be under control of the Customs and Border Protection agency.
The agency is expanding operations along the northern border. At Port Angeles, the number of Border Patrol agents has increased from four to 24 in just over a year.
