EVERETT – Noticed a difference at Floral Hall in Forest Park?
The hall, in the heart of Forest Park, had its 30-year-old pecan flooring replaced recently with new maple flooring.
The pecan floor “had been in pretty bad shape. Because of heavy use … pieces were breaking off. We were concerned with dance classes there – we didn’t want people to trip,” said city spokeswoman Kate Reardon.
The floor had been sanded and refinished multiple times, so the city spent $43,617 to remove it and install a new floor.
Reardon said part of the stipulation on removing the old floor was that it would be reused in some way. The city of Everett donated it to Seattle, where it will become part of Seattle’s program on recycled materials.
Floral Hall was built in 1939 and remodeled in the 1960s, at which time the pecan flooring was installed for use as a dance floor.
