PORT ANGELES — Local government and tribal officials opened a new road Tuesday west of Port Angeles to the Lower Elwha Klallam reservation.
The federal government paid $9 million for the mile-and-a-half long Elwha Valley Road.
The Peninsula Daily News reports the road could be an important escape route if an earthquake or tsunami blocks the existing Lower Elwha Road.
