County appoints Fire District 12 commissioner

The Snohomish County Council on Wednesday appointed Marilyn Sheldon to fill one of two openings for Fire District 12 commissioners.

The Marysville Fire District board of directors includes three people from District 12 in the unincorporated areas plus three Marysville city councilmen. Two of the three District 12 commissioners, Iris Lilly and Katherine Smith, had to resign because Marysville annexed the areas where they lived.

Sheldon, in a letter of interest for the post, said she has worked for the Tulalip Tribes since 1986 and is a member of the Marysville Tulalip Chamber of Commerce.

Sheldon ran for commissioner last year, but lost narrowly to Lilly. Now that she has been appointed, Sheldon and remaining commissioner David DeMarco can appoint a third commissioner, who is expected to serve through the fall of 2011.
