Castle Rock boy sentenced for rape
KELSO — A 13-year-old Castle Rock boy was sentenced to up to nine months in juvenile detention for raping a 6-year-old boy.
Cowlitz County Superior Court Judge Jill Johanson found the boy guilty Feb. 23, and he was sentenced Thursday in Kelso.
Prosecutors said the boy was 11 in 2008 when he sexually assaulted the family friend.
The Daily News of Longview reports the teen will have to register as a sex offender for life.
He’ll undergo sex offender treatment at the Echo Glen Children’s Center at Snoqualmie. The state Juvenile Rehabilitation Administration will determine how much time the boy will serve, based on his behavior and treatment progress.
Enumclaw: Animal cruelty charges filed
An Enumclaw woman has been charged with two counts of first-degree animal cruelty in connection with the deaths of more than two dozen farm animals.
If convicted, Karen E. Thomas could face up to a year in jail. Prosecutors say animal control officers were called out to Thomas’ property in November and found a dead horse, a dead sheep, 10 dead chickens and nine emaciated horses. Court documents show a veterinarian found the horses were too sick to save, and the animals were put down.
In charging Thomas, prosecutors claim Thomas was criminally negligent in her failure to provide food and water to her animals and as a result, they suffered unjustifiable physical pain, emaciation and death.
