Belgian documentary film maker Sebastien Wielemans contacted me over the weekend to report that he’s posted on Vimeo A Cycle of Fences, his thought-provoking examination of the Shawna Forde case.
Wielemans met Forde in October 2008 while filming in Arizona for a story on the Minutemen. He was arranging some more filming and followup interviews when she was charged with two murders that occurred during a May 2009 home-invasion robbery in Arivaca, Ariz.
Wielemans’ 52-minute film is beautiful work and unflinching about truth in the places that matter. It also provides videotaped proof of the odd ways Forde’s mind works and the role she claimed in the Minutemen world.
Forde was convicted of orchestrating the killings. An Arizona jury is expected to resume Tuesday deliberating whether the former Everett woman should face the death penalty. The youngest victim, Brisenia Flores, was just 9.
