SEATTLE — Seattle Central Community College officials will meet with Occupy Seattle representatives to discuss removing the Occupy encampment on campus, a school spokeswoman said Monday.
The community college won a court ruling last week that paved the way to post eviction notices on the encampment. College trustees have said campers have created security and sanitation problems.
The college wants to “ensure a peaceful and orderly exit strategy,” spokesman Patricia Paquette said. The meeting with protesters was set for Tuesday.
On Monday, Occupy Seattle posted an open letter from Seattle Central Community College faculty English instructor Jeb Wyman in which he says the security and vandalism problems existed before the protesters set up camp.
“I’ve stepped over many a hypodermic needle … And over broken gin bottles, stolen purses, beer cans in paper bags, empty plastic baggies. My car has been broken into three times. The garage was once equipped with security cameras, but they were — you can’t make this up! — stolen years ago,” Wyman wrote.
The court ruling was the latest setback to the Seattle branch of the national protest against wealth inequality, with some elements in the camp all but resigned to leaving campus.
Sixteen Occupy Seattle members were arrested by city police Saturday after they took over a boarded up warehouse on Capitol Hill.
Before police moved in, protesters said they planned to clean up the warehouse and host DJs for free concerts.
