Senate Democrats issued a press release Sunday following passage of two bills intended to generate $890 million in new revenue by mid-2011.
This is the headline:
‘Courageous’ revenue package sent to the House
Here’s the release.
Six members of the Democratic caucus voted against the larger of the two tax bills but it doesn’t appear any of them issued press releases touting their courage to say ‘No.”
However, two of the sextet, Sen. Tim Sheldon, D-Potlatch, and Sen. Rodney Tom, D-Medina, did speak during the debate to explain the reasons for their votes.
Sheldon’s stance was no surprise as he has consistently opposed raising taxes this session.
Tom said his opposition stemmed from the inclusion of a sales tax increase which he felt would impede economic recovery in the state. We’ll see if his position changes if that element is left out of the final revenue package put before the Legislature.
