Applaud: One-act festival at Arts school: The Arts and Technology High School on the Marysville Tulalip Campus hosts a Blitz Theatre Show of one-act plays, a combined effort of the school’s Drama Club and drama class, at 7 p.m. today and Saturday.

Today, see “Rutherford Wolf” and “The Neglected Husbands Sewing Club.” On Saturday, it’s “The Last Days of Sherlock Holmes” and “The Neglected Husbands Sewing Club.”

Admission is $5 at the door.

Learn: Horsekeeping on display in Stanwood: Own horses? Learn how to provide habitat for wildlife while keeping your horse’s hooves healthy, your manure pile manageable and your pastures green at a Snohomish Conservation District tour of a Stanwood farm in the Victoria Heights area on May 17.

Landowners of the Stanwood farm, home to three horses and two donkeys, have worked with the Snohomish Conservation District to install compost bins, confinement areas and fencing, revive their pastures and restore their pond.

Reminisce: Celebrate Monroe’s Pioneer schools: The Monroe Historical Society will discuss the early one-room and pioneer schools that dotted the area until the 1950s at 2:30 p.m. May 17 at the Tualco Grange Hall, 18933 Tualco Road.

Speakers will explore the history of the Tualco, Mount Forest, Wagner, Roosevelt, Fern Bluff, Stocker, Ben Howard, Park Place and Central schools. Alumni of these schools and the public are encouraged to attend and bring pictures or mementoes they may have of the Pioneer Schools.

A commemorative Pioneer Schools quilt, designed and constructed by master quilter Janet Osborn and historical member Gail Dillaway, will be on display with raffle tickets available for purchase.

Help: Family-friendly benefit aids Oso: Hope for Oso, a family-friendly benefit with music and children’s activities, is set for 11 a.m.-10 p.m. May 17 at the Stanwood-Camano Island Community Fairgrounds, 6431 Pioneer Highway, Stanwood.

Gates open at 11 a.m. A noon opening ceremony will honor the victims, family, friends and rescue workers who helped at the March 22 Oso mudslide. Songwriter Thomas Vail will sing “Ode to Oso.”

Several other live acts round out the entertainment. There also will be food, refreshments, a silent auction, raffles and a bake sale. Proceeds benefit the North Counties Family Services Relief Fund through Coastal Community Bank.
