Crash: Get rid of Halloween sugar rush

A candy buy-back program by Bourne Orthodontics has paid $4 per pound of Halloween candy turned in, including $2 to the treat-giver and $2 to either the Marysville YMCA or Lake Stevens Boys and Girls Club. The last buy-back is Monday at the Lake Stevens office, 9633 Market Place, Suite 104. Candy is sent to military bases, homeless shelters and other charitable causes.

Run: Costume event supports Camp Fire

A Trash Your Costume Trail Run to support Camp Fire programs is set for 10 a.m. Saturday at Camp Killoqua in Stanwood. Check-in starts at 9:30 a.m. All ages are welcome and encouraged to come in costume. Cost is $35 or $90 per family, or $40 and $100 the day of the run.

Shush: Quiet time for teenagers in Mukilteo

After the rush and bustle of high school classes, teens are invited to take a break mid-week at a Teen Quiet Time. The opportunity is offered 3-5 p.m. every Wednesday at the Mukilteo Library, 4675 Harbour Pointe Blvd. Middle school students also are welcome.

The time is set aside to relax, unwind and support each other. Take a nap (and a free blanket from the Linus Project). Write or draw in a journal. Write a note to someone. The only rule is that “only kindness and respect are allowed.”

Help: Holiday season ramps up in Marysville

The Marysville Community Food Bank and Toy Store launches its holiday season with the All City Food Drive, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at more than 75 locations across the city.

Throughout the season the Food Bank seeks donations of food, including turkeys and hams, as well as unused toys, stocking stuffers, gift cards, new books, coats and wrapping materials. Donations also can be dropped off at the Food Bank, 8 a.m.-noon Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and 2 -7 p.m. Tuesdays.

Local city offices are collecting unwrapped gifts for newborns to 17-year-olds. In addition, the Marysville Police Department will collect coats, hats and gloves, 4:30-7:30 p.m. Nov. 18 at Fred Meyer and 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Nov. 19 at the Walmart on Highway 9.

Families in need of services are asked to sign up directly by visiting the food bank in person before Dec. 2. No online or phone registration is available.

Run: Or walk, for scholarships

The Edmonds Community College Foundation will hold its inaugural 5K Walk and Run on Saturday, Nov. 19, to benefit student scholarships, emergency assistance funds, and innovation grants.

Individuals can register for $40 through Nov. 18, and $45 the day of the event. Team registration is $500 and is due by Nov. 12.

Participants will be treated to live music, tasty treats, athletic scrimmages, and special student vignettes throughout the course and at the after-party. Children’s activities include face painting, a stamp card competition and courtyard games.
