PORTLAND, Ore. — A 50-year-old man who was set to go to trial next month for killing another man with one punch at a Portland motocross event this past summer has died.
The Oregonian reports Michael Eugene Taylor died days before Christmas. He was charged with manslaughter and assault in the death of 61-year-old Anthony Mancuso. The case has been dropped.
It’s unclear how Taylor died, but court reports say he had numerous health problems, including diabetes, blood clots and Celiac Disease.
Authorities say a fight broke out after a motocross race on July 9 at Portland International Raceway that involved Mancuso’s and Taylor’s sons. Witnesses say Taylor punched Mancuso, causing him to hit his head on the pavement. He died the next day.
Taylor had claimed he acted in self-defense.
