GLIDE, Ore. — A Southern Oregon man says he thought raccoons had been killing his backyard chickens for a couple of nights, so he took a 20-gauge shotgun with him when he heard a racket Sunday night.
It turns out his dogs were barking at a cougar, which he wounded with a shot from 25 feet.
Then he ran inside to get a more powerful 12-gauge shotgun, returned to set his dogs on the cat, and then shot it, fatally, a second time.
The Roseburg News-Review reported that Micah Long, 36, lives in the unincorporated town Glide in Douglas County.
He says he’d never seen a cougar on his property, but two were spotted in a neighbor’s yard a few years ago.
