PORTLAND, Ore. — Oregon State Police are seeking the public’s help regarding the deaths of a wolf pair in Wallowa County.
Lt. Bill Fugate said investigators suspect a person or people killed the two wolves. He declined to comment on how the wolves died.
Authorities say the bodies were found three weeks ago, 50 yards of each other, in the Sled Springs area. One of the wolves was collared and its collar emitted a mortality signal, leading to the discovery.
State Department of Fish and Wildlife spokeswoman Michelle Dennehy said the pair became officially established in Sled Springs in January.
Dennehy said there was one reported wolf predation in the area in June, when a rancher found a partially consumed calf and the state determined it was killed by a wolf.
