PORTLAND, Ore. — An Oregon psychic who carried out an elaborate scheme that duped an Oregon man of millions of dollars is to be sentenced Thursday in federal court.
The Oregonian says federal prosecutors are seeking a nine-year prison term for 44-year-old Rachel Lee. She has pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges and failing to file personal income taxes.
Prosecutors say Lee in 2006 became the caregiver for a man who owned a tree farm west of Portland. Lee eventually gained control of the family’s financial affairs, and was executor of the man’s will after his death in 2011.
The con expanded when the man’s bachelor son later told others he married a woman named Mary Marks. She turned out to be Lee’s daughter in disguise.
The alleged wife then negotiated the sale of property, with the Lees enjoying the profits.
