Improvement club plans bazaar

The Arlington Heights Improvement Club will have a country Christmas bazaar 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday at the club, 12221 Arlington Heights Road.

Edmonds

Westgate Chapel to serve dinner

Edmonds’ Westgate Chapel will offer its annual free Thanksgiving dinner at 11 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

In addition, internationally known yo-yo man Arne Dixon will perform and provide gifts to the first 150 children to attend the 11 a.m. seating.

There will be door prizes, children’s gifts and crafts, music, a food and clothing bank, free transportation and family photos.

The traditional dinner with all the trimmings is open to anyone who would like to attend. Westgate Chapel is at 22901 Edmonds Way. For more information call 425-775-2776.

Everett

Festival of Trees coming to town

Providence General Foundation invites the community to attend its 18th annual Festival of Trees, a weeklong series of events at the Marine View Conference Center, on the 14th Street dock on the Everett waterfront.

Proceeds benefit children’s services at Providence Everett Medical Center.

The festival opening night party and silent auction will be 5:30-10 p.m. Tuesday.

Cost is $35 per person and includes an hors’ d’oeuvre buffet, Irish coffee and entertainment.

A free open house for children will feature decorated and theme trees 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Dec. 3. Santa arrives at 4 p.m. Everyone is invited to enjoy the entertainment, children’s activities and holiday refreshments.

The festival’s free senior open house will be 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Dec. 5.

Jingle Bells and Jazz Night featuring local musicians will be 7-11 p.m. Dec. 5. The cost per person is $50 and includes hors d’oeuvre and dancing.

Lions Club Christmas trees

The Oak Harbor Lions Club’s annual Christmas tree sale 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday and continues daily until sold out. The sale will be in the 32600 block of Highway 20, next to the chamber of commerce.

Proceeds will help the club’s many projects, including paying for eyeglasses and exams, three scholarships, Special Olympics, a summer camp for the disabled and Northwest Hearing Foundation.

Lake Stevens

Book discussion group to meet

Adult readers are invited to attend the Lake Stevens Library’s book discussion group, which meets monthly to discuss a selected book. This month’s selection is “Their Eyes Were Watching God,” by Zora Neale Hurston.

The meeting is at 7 tonight at the library, 1804 Main St.

Funding is provided by the Friends of the Lake Stevens Library.

Lynnwood

Restaurant looks to grant wishes

Tony Roma’s in Lynnwood is asking people to donate a Christmas gift for a needy child who has made a Christmas wish.

Stop by the restaurant and choose a child’s name and wish and bring back a gift to put under the tree by Dec. 23.

The restaurant is located at 3828 196th S. SW.

Marysville

Police building to be remodeled

The City Council has awarded a $115,984 bid to Construction Concepts Inc. to remodel the Public Safety Building at 1635 Grove St.

The two-phase project will start with the second-floor detective area being remodeled, followed by the first-floor entrance, reception and records areas.

Mill Creek

Fire meeting date is changed

Because of Thanksgiving, the Fire District 7 commission will meet at 8 a.m. today instead of Thursday.

The meeting will be at district headquarters, 8010 180th St. SE in Clearview.

Monroe

Council won’t meet this week

The Monroe City Council will not meet for its work session today because of Thanksgiving.

The next City Council meeting will be at 7 p.m. Dec. 3 at City Hall, 806 W. Main St.

Snohomish

Local troops given a special send-off

In a ceremony last week, Mayor Cameron Bailey helped send off soldiers from the Army National Guard’s 898th Alpha Company.

The 898th is made up of 60 soldiers who were called up for an 18-month tour of duty in Iraq with the 81st Armored Brigade. The troops will go to Fort Lewis to await further orders.

The ceremony was at the Snohomish Armory, where Alpha Company has been stationed for five years.

Bailey spoke at the ceremony, reminding troops and their families of the pride and honor the community has for their service and commitment.

Stanwood

High school offers financial aid talk

Stanwood High School has scheduled a financial aid information night at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the high school library, 7400 272nd St. NW.

Sharon Parks from the financial aid office at Everett Community College will review the Free Application for Federal Student Aid form. A brief question-and-answer session will follow.

Other financial aid information will be available. School officials encourage senior students and their parents to attend.
