Mountlake Terrace: Vote on development ban
The Mountlake Terrace City Council is scheduled to vote today whether to continue a moratorium on new youth centers, government buildings, churches and other types of establishments in its downtown core.
The City Council meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. today at City Hall at 23204 58th Ave. W.
The moratorium has been in place in the downtown area since August 2005. Since then, the City Council has adopted new codes and ordinances meant to revitalize the city’s downtown area.
The moratorium was intended to block types of growth that might go against the city’s long-term plan. The moratorium blocks establishments and development that would need conditional-use permits.
The current moratorium is scheduled to end on Dec. 29. The council could vote to extend the moratorium by another six months.
