Bothell: Library offers holiday music

Hear holiday tunes played by the Cascade Brass Quintet in an event planned for the Bothell Regional Library.

The event is planned for 7 p.m. today at the library at 18215 98th Ave. NE. Free tickets are planned to be distributed from the information desk.

Musicians are expected to be playing the trumpet, the French horn, the trombone and the tuba.

For more information, call the library at 425-486-7811.

Edmonds: Library board seat open

A volunteer is needed to fill a vacancy on the Edmonds Library Board.

The Library Board has five members who serve five-year terms. Members meet at 6 p.m. on the third Monday of every month at the Edmonds Library.

The board provides support and advice to the mayor and the Edmonds City Council on planning, management, use, care and disposition of the library’s property, equipment and physical facilities.

The board also creates policies and rules to regulate use of the library and its resources.

The deadline for applications is 4:30 p.m. Jan. 24. Applicants do not need to live in Edmonds.

For an application, visit the first-floor receptionist at Edmonds City Hall, 121 Fifth Ave. N., or call 425-775-2525.

Lynnwood: Families shop with cops

Christmas came early last week for several low-income families, thanks to a program organized by the Lynnwood Police Department.

Through Shop With a Cop, Lynnwood police officers helped 22 local mothers and 29 children pick out gifts for the holiday season. The mothers are members of Pathways for Women YWCA.

Funding for the event was provided by donations from Target and other area businesses. A former Edmonds School District employee raised thousands of dollars for the event by holding a large garage sale.

Mill Creek: City to watch the kids

Parents can free themselves for some Christmas shopping this week by dropping off their kids at Mill Creek City Hall.

On Friday, the city plans a Parents’ Night Out, 6 to 9:30 p.m. at City Hall at 15728 Main St. There is no cost, but parents who participate are asked to bring a canned food donation.

The event, for children ages 4 and older, features games and other activities. The event is sponsored by the Mill Creek Youth Advisory Board.

For more information, or to reserve a space, call 425-745-1891.

Monroe: Ministry seeks donations

Matthew House, a nonprofit ministry, is collecting canned foods, small turkeys, hams, holiday foods and Christmas gifts for children. The group helps families in need whose members are incarcerated in prisons.

The ministry gives food to more than 5,000 families a year and gives Christmas gifts to children.

People may send cash donations to Matthew House, P.O. Box 201, Monroe, WA 98272. Or they may drop off canned food or gifts at Matthew House, 16207 177th Ave. SE, Monroe.
