Bothell: Lane shut for cable work

A single-lane closure on Filbert Drive is expected to be in effect through the end of this month.

The closure is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday until Oct. 31 in the 19900 block of Filbert Drive, according to the Snohomish County Public Works Department.

The lane is being closed to allow Verizon workers to install cables.

Edmonds: City will get you in shape

Keep off the winter weight by signing up for a health and fitness class through Edmonds Parks and Recreation.

The city offers classes in a variety of activities including Pilates, aerobics, yoga, belly dancing, tae kwon do and prenatal fitness.

Lynnwood: Forum for candidates

Candidates for public office in Lynnwood and Snohomish County are scheduled to meet Tuesday for a moderated forum.

The forum is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Lynnwood City Council chambers at 19100 44th Ave. W. Those who arrive half an hour early can spend time talking with candidates.

Joan Penney, dean of humanities and social sciences at Edmonds Community College, is planning to moderate the event.

The forum is being sponsored by the city of Lynnwood.

Monroe: Get some tips on fire safety

Monroe Fire District 3 is set to have a fire prevention week Oct. 7-13 with the theme “Practice Your Escape Plan.”

As part of the week’s activities, the district has scheduled its annual open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 13 at 163 Village Court. The event includes safety and injury prevention information, fire extinguisher training, a kids’ hose line, a fire safety trailer, demonstrations in removing victims from car wrecks and fire truck rides.

There will also be information to help people create a home fire escape plan.

Mountlake Terrace: Domestic violence awareness month

October has been declared Domestic Vio­lence Awareness Month by the Mountlake Terrace City Council.

So far this year, domestic violence has been reported to police more than 300 times in Mountlake Terrace, city spokeswoman Virginia Olsen said.

The city’s police department works with Snohomish County Center for Battered Women to assist victims of domestic violence. The city also has a domestic violence coordinator and prosecutor to go after offenders.
