Edmonds: Library plans winter party
Celebrate winter with games, music and food at an event being planned at the Edmonds Library.
The winter party event is scheduled for 4 p.m. Dec. 18 at the library, 650 Main St.
At the library, people will be able to play video games, sing karaoke and do other activities.

Lynnwood: Make holiday wreaths
Decorate wreaths for the holidays through a class being offered by the city of Lynnwood.
The Christmas wreaths class is scheduled from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and again Dec. 11 at the Recreation Center, 18900 44th Ave. W. The class costs $23 for Lynnwood residents and $25 for nonresidents.
People must bring their own wreaths, glue guns and wire cutters. The class will provide decoration supplies.

Mill Creek: Author coming to library
A popular author of teen novels, plays and screenplays is planning to make an appearance at the Mill Creek Library.
Author Brent Hartinger is scheduled to be at the library at 3 p.m. Dec. 12. The library is at 15429 Bothell-Everett Highway.
His works include “Geography Club” and “Split Screen: Attack of the Soul-Sucking Zombies/Bride of the Soul-Sucking Zombies.” Hartinger plans to read from his books and take questions from the audience.

Mountlake Terrace: Resident keeps seat on state committee
A Mountlake Terrace man has been reappointed by Gov. Chris Gregoire to serve a three-year term on the state Committee on Disability Issues and Employment.
Gerald Otis, who founded a nonprofit organization that builds affordable wheelchair ramps, is now set to serve on the committee until Dec. 31, 2010.
His committee advises the governor and the Legislature on disability issues, leads projects to address specific issues and provides training and assistance to individuals and organizations. The committee also conducts workshops and conferences and publishes disability-related materials.
Otis is a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America.
Snohomish: Sit on Design Review Board
Those with skills in fields such as architecture, history, construction, landscape architecture, land development or graphic, interior and industrial design may apply to serve on the Snohomish Design Review Board.
Members make recommendations to the city planner about approvals for projects within the city’s historic district.
There is a vacancy on the board. Application are due for the city clerk by 4 p.m. Dec. 14 at City Hall, 116 Union Ave.
The board opening was created by the resignation of Karen Guzak, who was elected Nov. 6, to the City Council. Her term on the board will expire Aug. 15, 2008.
