The question of whether commercial flights should come to Paine Field is on its way to a panel of 12 of local leaders.
The panel will review current and potential uses of the airport, including commercial air service, and then report to the Snohomish County Council.
Snohomish County Executive Aaron Reardon, Mukilteo Mayor Don Doran and Everett Mayor Ray Stephanson announced the panel’s membership on Friday.
“The future of Paine Field is of great importance to the county, local cities, businesses and residents,” Reardon said.
He pledged creation of the panel in May and appointed Doran and Stephanson to lead the group. Members were chosen for their ability to listen and deliberate thoughtfully, he said.
The panel includes co-chairmen Doran and Stephanson, Edmonds Councilwoman Deanna Dawson, business consultant Tom Gaffney, Coast Real Estate Services chief Tom Hoban, Mukilteo Councilwoman Lori Kaiser, Mukilteo School Board member Kevin Laverty, Arlington Airport Commissioner A.J. Chase, Mark Wolken of Mark Wolken and Associates, Mountlake Terrace Councilwoman Michelle Robles, Stuchell Enterprises president and CEO John Shaw and Reid Middleton Inc. president and CEO Hugh Townsend.
The panel will target a document called the mediated role determination, which stems from a 28-year-old resolution on airport uses. A 2002 economic plan directed a study of commercial air service at the airport.
The panel’s first meeting will be at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 1 in the County Administration Building’s third-floor conference room, 3000 Rockefeller Ave., Everett.
