PASCO — The Downtown Pasco Development Authority director who admitted to embezzling an estimated $90,000 from the agency has been fired by its board members.
The Tri-City Herald reported that board members voted unanimously Thursday to fire 36-year-old Michael Goins. Goins has been charged with theft for allegedly taking the money over a two-year period.
An accounting firm, the state auditor’s office and police are trying to determine exactly how much money was taken.
Goins allegedly told police he used money from the Pasco nonprofit, which is partially funded with taxpayer dollars, to pay for personal expenses.
Documents also say he confessed to stealing money from a New Jersey retirement home before he was hired in Pasco in 2013, but it’s unclear how much was stolen.
He remains jailed on $100,000 bail.
