EVERETT – A pilot walked to get help Monday after his plane crashed just north of Paine Field, police said.
The man, 41, was approaching the runway in the Piper PA-12 he was flying when the plane lost power about 7 a.m. and crashed into some trees about 3,000 feet from the runway, Everett police Sgt. Robert Goetz said.
“He amazingly walked away,” Goetz said. “The plane is twisted in a lot of different ways.”
The accident occurred near the 4200 block of 78th Street W. Mukilteo firefighters took the man to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, Goetz said.
Officials from the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the crash to try to determine what caused the plane to lose power.
This is the second crash in less than a month at Paine Field. A pilot of an experimental plane experienced some trouble and attempted to land at the airfield two weeks ago.
That plane crashed into a fence and flipped over. The pilot was pulled from the wreckage by three bystanders.
