Washington State Patrol said the pursuit began along Highway 2 near Lake Stevens, but did not say what led to the chase.

EVERETT — A police chase ended in a deadly rollover crash on Sunday night in Everett.

Around 8 p.m. Sunday, Washington State Patrol initiated the pursuit along Highway 2 near Lake Stevens, which then continued into Everett, a spokesperson confirmed Monday. Further questions were directed to the Everett Police Department. What led to the pursuit is still not known.

The suspect’s vehicle, a 2013 Kia Rio, crashed into a Subaru driven by a young woman at the intersection of 19th Street and Rainier Avenue, said Everett police officer CJ Hawley. It was unknown if drugs or alcohol influenced the crash.

Shortly after 8 p.m., Everett Fire responded. One person was declared dead at the scene, while another person was treated and released, according to an Everett Fire Department social media post.

Per department policies, Hawley said the Everett Police Department was not involved in the pursuit, but is investigating the crash, Hawley said. The road was closed for around nine hours for the investigation.

It’s the third time in two weeks that pursuit within Snohomish County has ended in a fatality.

On Sept. 15, a man accused of killing his mother near Arlington died after a police pursuit on Highway 9, investigators said. During the chase, deputies used a PIT maneuver to stop the man’s car. He was thrown from the car and died at the scene.

On Sept. 22, a man who police say shot and killed one person and injured another, fled from police before crashing on I-5 near Highway 526. Shortly after, officers reportedly heard gunshots from inside the man’s car. They approached and found the man dead. According to police, officers didn’t fire any shots.
