EDMONDS — A police impersonator claiming to be an Edmonds officer pulled over a citizen, police said.
Around 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, a man in a black Jeep with a push bar and flashing lights and sirens stopped a vehicle at Olympic View Drive and Talbot Road, according to Edmonds police. The man was wearing a vest that said “sheriff” and claimed to be a police officer.
The citizen questioned the man, who got back into his car and drove off, police said.
Edmonds officers confirmed Thursday they do not have a black Jeep patrol vehicle. No similar instances had been reported, Edmonds Cmdr. Shane Hawley said.
Hawley said Friday the man “clearly” had intention to impersonate an officer.
No one had been taken into custody as of Friday. It remained an active investigation Friday.
