DARRINGTON — A man shot at Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies Wednesday afternoon as they tried to arrest him on a warrant north of Darrington, according to police.
Around noon, Snohomish County Violent Offender Task Force began an operation to arrest the man wanted for first-degree robbery, said sheriff’s office spokesperson Courtney O’Keefe.
Just after 2 p.m., the man, 37, shot a single round, O’Keefe said. She was unsure if the man specifically shot at deputies.
No deputies were injured. O’Keefe said deputies didn’t return fire.
The shooting prompted a massive police response.
Authorities closed Highway 530 between Concrete Sauk Valley Road and Highway 20, near the Skagit County line.
Minutes later, the man surrendered to police without further incident.
