MARYSVILLE — While working local drug investigations, Marysville police heard that a cache of stolen silver and gold had shown up in this part of the state.
They checked out the tip with a detective who works in Jefferson County. The detective confirmed that a recent burglary in his jurisdiction had netted a large collection of precious metals in the form of bars, blocks and coins.
A Snohomish County judge found the information credible enough to approve a search warrant that same day, Feb. 27. The target was a house along Emerson Place in south Everett. The police were looking for evidence of possession of stolen goods, Cmdr. Robb Lamoureux said.
“We didn’t want the property to go into the wind again,” he said.
About a half-dozen people in the house were detained and questioned. The search warrant reportedly turned up about $110,000 worth of items missing from the Jefferson County burglary. Some of the coins are from around the world and worth as much as $1,300 each.
A second search warrant, obtained the next day, was for a vehicle associated with the house. Additional gold and silver coins, about $5,000 worth, were inside, according to police.
The investigation also turned up a large amount of heroin and methamphetamine. Arrests are expected as the case progresses, Lamoureux said.
The precious metals will remain in custody until the burglary victim can collect them.
“It was obviously a situation where a detective had to act very swiftly,” Lamoureux said. “… The detectives did a great job of obtaining the information and running with it right away.”
