FREEBORN — More than two dozen firefighters battled a chimney fire Sunday night that spread into an attic causing about $75,000 damage.
The fire started about 9 p.m. in a home in the 31900 block of 24th Avenue NW in the Freeborn area, North County Fire &EMS Battalion Chief Christian Davis said.
One person escaped the home without injuries.
Firefighters worked for several hours to keep the fire from spreading and destroying the rest of the home, Davis said.
Crews from Conway, Arlington, Stanwood and Fire District 19 assisted.
It appears that the fire started by accident but the precise cause remains under investigation by the Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s office.
“This is just another reminder to always take care of servicing your wood-burning fireplaces,” Davis said.
