BURLINGTON — Pumpkins will be flying Saturday at Skagit River Park in Burlington for the annual Harvest Festival and Pumpkin Pitch.
The city is one of the sponsors for a competition among five medieval-style catapults called trebuchets (TREB’-yoo-shays).
The Skagit Valley Herald reported that five teams will compete for distance and accuracy. The teams are Squash-o-Fire, Gourdinator, Hurl, Mixed Nuts Jr., and Drill Sargent. The biggest machine can sling a pumpkin 1,500 feet — more than a quarter-mile.
More than 5,000 people watched last year’s pumpkin pitching competition in Burlington.
