Peter Sadowski, 18, from Archbishop Thomas J. Murphy High School, has a 3.98 grade point average and plans to study mathematics, physics or computer science at California Institute of Technology. He has won a number of awards for mathematics. He was a football quarterback, a member of the math club and taught a class on Lego robots and at a state technology conference
Daylene Mills, 20, of Granite Falls High, plans to attend Hawaii Pacific University to study marine biology and chemistry. She is studying at Everett Community College for an associate’s degree.
RiSheng Zheng, 18, of Cascade High, has a 3.68 GPA and plans to study engineering at the UW. As a junior he won an outstanding student award for physics and he’s a National Honor Society member. He spent his childhood in China and his parents own a Chinese restaurant. Zheng works there after school to help the family.
Kit Radosevich, 18, has been homeschooled her entire life. She plans to study engineering at UW. She raises Holland Lop rabbits, works at the EvCC chemistry lab and has volunteered more than 200 hours at the Forest Park Animal Farm.
Nicole Barhanovich, 18, of Everett High, has a 4.0 GPA and plans to attend Gonzaga to pursue orthodontics. She has been named student of the month in advanced chemistry and calculus and is senior class treasurer. She was golf and volleyball captain. She is a lifeguard and swim instructor at Forest Park and tutors in math.
Benjamin Watanabe, 18, of Everett High, has a 3.5 GPA and plan to attend Seattle University to study journalism. As a freshman, he was physical world science student of the month and has lettered in tennis his sophomore and junior years.
Kaley Mitchell, 18, of Jackson High, has a 3.92 GPA and plans to study education or psychology at the UW. She was student body president for three years, business manager for the school newspaper and played soccer.
Tiffany Moran, 18, of Everett High, has a 3.9 GPA and plans to enroll in the pre-med program at the UW. She is an editor of the yearbook and president of the National Torch Honor Society.
Nathaniel Hadley, 19, of Kamiak High, has a 3.8 GPA and plans to attend Whitworth to become a physical therapist. He has received outstanding student awards for Russian, biology, band and weight training. He was captain of the track and field, wrestling and football teams.
Jonathan Yockey, 18, of Cascade High, has a 3.9 GPA and plans to attend the UW to study math. In high school, Yockey was part of an award-winning math team placing second in the state. He participated in Evergreen Boys State in 2004 and has volunteered for various groups, including Special Olympics.
Ksenia Kostenko, 18, of Sno-Isle Tech Skill Center, has a 3.8 GPA and plans to attend EvCC and study nursing. She’s an award-winning swimmer for Kamiak, where she was a team captain her senior year. As a junior, she participated in Relay for Life to raise money for cancer research. She moved here from Russia with her sister and parents.
Clarrisa Fidler, 17, of Everett High, has a 3.9 GPA and plans to study exercise science at Brigham Young. Fidler was voted most valuable player of the junior varsity fastpitch softball team. She also participated in the EHS Thanksgiving Food Drive, the Spirit Club and the Everett LDS Stake Youth Committee.
Anshu Gounder, 17, of Mariner High, has a 3.8 GPA. Ever since being exposed to unhygienic hospital conditions in Fiji, Gounder has wanted to become a pediatrician. Gounder will enroll in the pre-med program at UW. She received the Lamp of Knowledge honors for five years, earned a varsity letter in tennis and is a member of the National Honor Society.
Stephanie Halligan, 18, of Jackson High has a 3.9 GPA and plans to study education at Stanford. She has received recognition for scholarship and music including the WESCO academic award, the Mill Creek Rotary Student of the Month and Hershey’s All-USA High School Band semi-finalist. She has been first chair tuba throughout high school. She was a tutor and a nanny.
Rebecca Lyons, 22, EvCC, has a 3.73 GPA and plans to study nursing at UW. As a Jackson High freshman, Lyons was voted most motivational member of the volleyball team. As a senior, she was Key Club president and served dinners at Everett Gospel Mission. Lyons has also hula danced for five years.
Michael Sutton, 18, of Archbishop Murphy, has a 3.9 GPA and plans to study film production at Loyola Marymount. He won the Chet Wilkerson Leadership Award in 2004 and was junior class president and yearbook editor. Each summer Sutton flew to Chicago to work at his grandmother’s food-packaging company.
Rewa Sandhu, 17, of Jackson High, has a 3.9 GPA, plans to study microbiology at UW and eventually attend medical school. Sandhu has been treasurer for the Peer Mediation Club and Club Colors, a multi-cultural club. She was a member of Key Club and the honor society. Since 1999, Sandhu has helped serve food at the Sikh temple she attends.
Loc Trinh, 18, of Mariner High has a 3.7 GPA and plans to study industrial design at UW. Trinh was a Gates Achievers Scholarship recipient and the only student to ever be named the Discover Card Tribute Award State Level Winner. His artwork has been displayed in the Frye Art Museum, and he was Studio Dancer of the Year for 2005. Trinh has been commissioned to paint two murals.
Kathy Phan, 18, of Jackson High has a 3.8 GPA and plans to study international relations at Long Island University. She was named a WESCO academic scholar and was student body vice president. She was co-founder of Jackson’s Rid Every Adult and Child of Hunger, or REACH, program where she volunteered at food banks and raised hunger awareness in the community.
Brittany Grgich, 18, of Cascade, has a 3.9 GPA and plans to study biology at the UW. She is a National Honor Society member and a member of Vivace choir that won first place at the Mount Hood Jazz Festival. She did a mission trip to Mexico in the summer of 2003.
Jaeha Oh, 18, of Jackson High has a 3.9 GPA and plans to attend the UW to become a doctor. He has a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and has been involved in numerous groups, including the tennis team, track, Key Club, National Honor Society, and was an ESL tutor for other students. In 2003, Oh coordinated the Space Needle Cancer Walk where 40 students took a 25-mile walk to the Space Needle and raised more than $500 for the American Cancer Society.
Melissa Morales, 17, of Kamiak has a 3.9 GPA and plans to study biology and international relations at Stanford with the goal of working internationally as a doctor. She is a National Hispanic Recognition Scholar and has won numerous other academic awards. She has been an orchestra member throughout high school; her 90-piece ensemble traveled to Hawaii to perform on the deck of the USS Missouri.
Jameson Mendoza, 17, of Snohomish High School has a 4.0 GPA and plans to study medicine at UW. When Mendoza was younger, he dreamed of being a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle to help people. Mendoza still wants to help, but as a doctor. He has received numerous academic awards and is in the top 1 percent of his graduating class.
Stacie Bonner, 19, of Sequoia High plans to attend Pima Medical Institute or EvCC to become a veterinarian or vet technician. Her senior project was on animal-related careers. Bonner lives on her own and pays her own bills, including the medical costs for two surgeries. Through her medical ordeal, Bonner’s goal was to finish high school.
Steven Johnston, 18, of Kamiak has a 3.9 GPA and plans to study government at Harvard. He has studied government at the Junior Statesman Summer Schools at Stanford and Georgetown. He has volunteered on more than half a dozen political campaigns, in addition to being a page for the state Senate.
James Chin, 18, of Kamiak has a 3.9 GPA and wants to study pre-law at Stanford or the UW. He has received several academic awards, including the Lamp of Knowledge for three years in a row for high GPA. Chin belongs to numerous organizations, including Hi-Q, Japanese Club, Key Club, Knowledge Bowl, Robotics Club and the Northwest Asian Weekly Foundation Board.
Matthew Rutherford, 18, of Archbishop Murphy has a 4.0 GPA and plans to study environmental engineering at UW. He won several awards for academics, including Spanish and chemistry. He was a member of the math club, jazz band and National Honors Society. He volunteered more than 120 hours at St. Vincent de Paul.
Shaun Neubauer, 18, of Mariner has a 3.9 GPA and plans to study architecture and engineering with a minor in reptile science at UW. He has been a Lamp of Knowledge recipient for three years, a WESCO academic award winner and a Washington State Achievers Scholarship winner. He has been soccer team captain, student body treasurer and a jazz ensemble section leader. Neubauer has also played in an alternative rock band and been a soccer referee.
Melissa Tremayne, 18, of Mariner has a 3.8 GPA and plans to attend the UW to study civil engineering. She was a three-time Lamp of Knowledge award winner and received a varsity letter in soccer and golf.
Kacy Derr, 17, of Mariner has a 3.8 GPA and plans to enroll in the UW to become a doctor. In 2003, Derr became a member of the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine where she spent two weeks in New Orleans visiting hospitals. She is one of two teenage daughters being raised by a single mother.
Nicole Blesie, 18, of Sno-Isle Tech Skills Center has a 3.3 GPA and plans to study neurology at WSU. Blesie wants to be a large- animal veterinarian and spends time volunteering at Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center where she helps disabled riders.
Alexandra Curry, 17, of Sequoia High plans to study cosmetology at the Northwest Hair Academy. Curry would like to pursue a career in photography with the ultimate goal of becoming a wedding photographer. Curry went on a mission trip, helping homeless teenagers in Los Angeles.
