School FYI

“Juniors and seniors don’t have to go to school until 10 o’clock these days because the sophomores are taking the WASL. Prom is on (Saturday). I’m going, but $80 seems like a lot of money for a dance. And I don’t even know how to dance.”

– Garrett Beslow,

12th grade

Parents can meet the two finalists vying to become the next principal at Kamiak High School 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Mukilteo campus.

The finalists are Keith Rittel, the principal at Anacortes High School, and Kevin Allen, an assistant principal at Lynnwood High School.

Rittel, who has also worked in schools in Utah and British Columbia, will be at the school at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Allen, an assistant principal at Lynnwood High School since 1999, will be available at 7:15 p.m.

Kamiak is seeking a new principal because Ed Young is retiring at the end of the school year.

The Arlington School Board on Monday approved the hiring of Kurt Crisione as Arlington High School’s new principal effective July 1.

A series of hour-long community forums to interview candidates for superintendent of the Marysville School District are set for Thursday, May 6; Friday, May 7; and Monday, May 10. All three finalists are expected to be at the forums, which start at 5 p.m. on all three days. The forums will be at district headquarters, 4220 80th St. NE.

The Marysville School Board will narrow its list to three candidates by May 5.

The district is looking for a superintendent to replace Linda Whitehead, whose contract was bought out for $340,000 in March.

There’s school in Marysville this Saturday – but not for students.

Teachers will go through training and work on planning as part of their extra duties provided for by local levy money.

Activities vary by grade level: Elementary teachers will learn about a new anti-bullying curriculum; junior high school teachers will discuss reorganizing their campus under a Bill &Melinda Gates Foundation grant; and Marysville-Pilchuck High teachers will hone the school’s improvement plan.
