OCOSTA — The Ocosta School District will release plans Thursday for what it calls the nation’s first vertical-evacuation structure.
A new elementary school will be designed and built with upper-level space where children could flee in the event a tsunami hits the Washington coast.
Chuck Wallace with the Grays Harbor County Emergency Management Agency told KBKW-AM that it will be the first such structure in the country.
