EVERETT – Opening arguments in the trial of a Seattle teenager accused of killing a classmate are scheduled to begin today in Snohomish County Superior Court.
Jenson Hugh Hankins, 17, will be tried for the Aug. 21, 2003, beating and stabbing death of John Jasmer, 16.
Prosecutors said Hankins and Joshua David Goldman lured Jasmer to an isolated spot on the Tulalip Indian Reservation where they had dug a grave the day before.
Prosecutors said the attack was revenge because the defendants suspected Jasmer had sexually assaulted Hankins’ girlfriend. All the teens were students at Roosevelt High School in Seattle.
Goldman, 18, pleaded guilty to murder in August and stands to spend more than two decades behind bars.
