SEATTLE — A dean at Seattle University has retired following recent student protests in her office.
Jodi Kelly, dean of the school’s humanities-based college, retired earlier this week. Jodi Kelly was placed on administrative leave in June after a 22-day student sit-in.
Students began occupying a part of Kelly’s office because they wanted to see changes to the humanities college curriculum, which they said focused too narrowly on Western ideas and history. They also called for her resignation.
Kelly did not respond to requests for comment, but the private university provided a brief statement with her saying that she was grateful for the opportunity to serve the students and alumni.
Meanwhile, President Stephen Sundborg praised Kelly’s prolonged career and that she’ll stay on as an emeritus faculty member.
