50 years ago (1956)
Everett contractor Ivan Rimstad received contracts today for the installation of curbs, gutters and sidewalks in the Claremont neighborhood. Streets affected were Rucker Avenue and 50th and 52nd streets. The bid for the work was $13,691.75.
One of the largest fir trees believed remaining in the country was felled near Circle Creek on the Suiattle River. The tree was cut by Lawrence and Arthur Bodke. The fir was five feet in diameter and 249 feet in length. The Bodkes said there was enough lumber in the tree to build a house.
25 years ago (1981)
The Rev. Richard Tuttle was retiring after 11 years as pastor at First United Methodist Church. He and his wife, Marion, who was also very involved in his ministry, were planning a retirement trip back east.
Philip Duffy was working on the Swalwell Building located on Hewitt Avenue. The building, which had fallen on hard times in the 1960s, was being restored. The second and third floors were being turned into apartments and office space.
