50 YEARS AGO (1959)
Edward J. Reinell, president of Reinell Boat Works in Marysville, today announced the completion of the first section of the company’s new facility. It would be equipped to handle year-round production of Reinell fiberglass boats. General manager John Tuttle estimated the firm would be able to double its production almost immediately. The new plant was north of Marysville while the present factory was at Ebey Slough.
Brothers Michael and David Haan were among the winners in the conservation poster contest sponsored by the Keep Washington Green Association. The announcement was made by Everett’s KWG chair, A.E. Boynton. Both boys were students at Everett Christian School.
25 YEARS AGO (1984)
Herm Atkins of Everett finished 34th in the U.S. Olympic marathon trials. The 36-year-old Atkins covered the 26.2-mile course in 2:19.45. Of the 174 who started the race, 108 finished.
Members of BIKES (the Biker’s Ideal Kinematic Exploration Society) gathered at Silvana Grain Co. The 10 souls cycled 20 miles together to Stanwood and back, along Norman Road and Highway 530.
