50 years ago (1964)
Workmen removed the neon marquee over the front of the Monte Cristo Hotel yesterday. A new marquee had been ordered and would be installed soon. It was one of the changes taking place at the hotel.
Will Eads, the newest member of the Arlington City Council, was given the oath of office by City Clerk Helen Bergan. Eads was owner of Town and Ranch Furniture in Arlington. He replaced Clarence Shaw who passed a few months ago, and his term would run until 1966.
25 years ago (1989)
Scofflaws looking for a nap had reasons to steer clear of Everett parks following recent city council action. Park rangers now could issue citations for violations of park rules and write tickets. This included littering, vandalism, alcohol and other drug use and trespassing after hours.
Four of the five sites for a proposed University of Washington Campus were in Snohomish County. The sites were on Bothell-Everett Highway north of Thrasher’s Corner, On Highway 522 near its junction with Interstate 405, in the Canyon Park area and near Monte Villa farm.
