Seems Like Yesterday

Jeanne Irving, R.N., instructor in charge of practical nursing at Everett Junior College, was presented as the new president of the Washington state Nurses Association at the Association 50th Convention in Seattle.

The Everett Motor Movie was “Peyton Place,” starring Lana Turner, Lloyd Nolan, Arthur Kennedy, Russ Tamblyn, Hope Lange, Diane Varsi, Terry Moore, Lee Phillips and David Nelson.

25 years ago (1983)

Today was Everett’s 90th birthday. Sharing the day with birthdays of their own were Robert Humphrey, Arnold Scowen, Mary Ellen Egge, Sarah Downey, Vern Stringer, Larry Countryman, Gary Dovre, Velma Frye, Annette Wilkes, Sally Barton and Terry Hubbard. Observing anniversaries were Dan and Cindy Taylor, William and Bertha Enger, and Allan and Anne Johnson.

Myrtle Lowthian and Everett had grown up together. She recalled taking her father his lunch down 101 steps to the waterfront near their home at 14th Street and Hoyt Avenue. She also recalled going to Washington School, attending Central School in eighth grade, and buying tickets for the (nonexistent) elevator at Everett High School.
