50 years ago (1957)
The Everett Doll and Toy Collectors Club met in the home of Dora Wieland for a Christmas party and gift exchange. Several dolls were presented to Martha Muckey to give to blind children. Laura Roos was in charge of the project. Guests were Marie Jorgensen and Floy Catron.
25 years ago (1982)
General Hospital of Everett won state approval to set up an open-heart surgery unit. Barring an unforeseen appeal, Everett General would become the first Western Washington hospital outside Seattle and Tacoma to offer cardiac surgery. The first open-heart surgery was expected to take place in April or May.
Weyerhaeuser planned to eliminate the third shift at its Everett sawmill, laying off 75 hourly workers. The company also planned to eliminate 15 jobs at its kraft pulp mill after a temporary shutdown for the holidays.
