50 years ago (1957)
Prospects for a one-way street grid downtown were discussed in a session of the Everett City Council. Calling for the move were Commissioner of Safety C. Arvid Johnson and Police Chief George Nelson, supported by Mayor George Culmback and Public Works Commissioner George Gebert. It would involve California and Wall streets between Rucker Avenue and Broadway, and Hoyt and Wetmore avenues between Everett and Pacific avenues.
25 years ago (1982)
Winter got its licks in early this year as the first sloppy snowfall of the season hit some lowland areas of the county. Front yards gradually turned from dark to white as up to 2 inches of snow fell in scattered areas, including south of Lake Stevens. In downtown Everett, flakes mingled with a frigid rain to turn streets wet and slushy, then icy.
