50 years ago (1957)
At least 200 raspberry pickers were needed by the Everett office of the state Employment Security Department. Pilchuck Berry Farm at Lochsloy and Stroud Berry Farm in Granite Falls would make routes through the city and join other farms at the Sears parking lot.
Jimmy Roth of Marysville and Ron Grosvenor of Monroe took longing looks at the Soap Box Derby prizes on display in the window of Sevenich Chevrolet Co. on Rucker Avenue. Showing one of the prizes was Mike Durick of Edmonds.
25 years ago (1982)
A $7.4 million plan to renovate and expand Cascade Valley Hospital in Arlington was unanimously endorsed by Snohomish County health planners. The plan called for the renovation of the one-story building and the addition of a three-story tower. Administrator Joe Hopkins said use of Cascade Valley had grown 18 percent over the past year.
Amateur boxer Jeff Lewis, 14, of Marysville had compiled a 40-12 record in three-round matches. His high point was when he earned a silver medal at the National Junior Olympics in Colorado Springs. The 80-pounder boxed for the Everett Fire Fighters.
