Firemen were confronted with an inferno last night they were summoned on an alarm at the Riverside Lumber Co., 2914 Walnut St. They battled the blaze for two hours but were unable to save the mill, owned by Jerry Vandos.
For the sixth successive year Simpson Paper Company awarded college scholarships to sons and daughters of employees. Local awards were made by Paul Peterson, secretary of the board of scholarship trustees to Charles Lewis, Elizabeth Ness and Demarious Moore.
25 years ago (1982)
Recently receiving juris doctor degrees from the University of Puget Sound School of Law were Eugene P. Hardy and Grant M. Johnson. Just starting out was Jeff Hovik, who would begin law school at the University of Arizona after graduating from Arizona State University. All were from Everett.
Kissie Kut was the Hair Style of the Month at Fashion Beauty Salon at 46th Street and Evergreen Way in back of the A&W Drive-In.
