Pvt. Larry Heinke, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Heinke, 3228 Colby Ave., had nearly completed his studies at military police school with the U.S. Army at Fort Gordon, Ga. He would next be sent to Jacksonville, Fla. for his next tour of duty. Formerly a student at Everett High School, he graduated from high school in Georgia.
Larry Poor, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. Otis Poor of 2015 Rockefeller Ave., was enlisted in the U.S. Navy it was learned today form Dave Stoddard, Navy recruiter in Everett. Poor was enlisted for a minority cruise which entitled him for re-enlistment or discharge on his 21st birthday.
Island County Auditor Harry Ferrier was featured in Time-Life Books’ multiple edition series, “The Carrier War.” He was an aviation radioman during the Battle of Midway, where he was wounded and survived a crash landing on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier. Ferrier later retired as a commander.
Philip Moore, an Everett freshman in electrical engineering, earned dean’s list recognition for outstanding academic achievement at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology located in Terre Haute, Ind.
