50 years ago (1956)
Everett Junior College women collected enough money and canned goods to fill a station wagon with boxes of Thanksgiving dinner food for needy families. Loading the car were Marie Ross, women’s advisor; Delaine Jarman, AWS president; and Nancy Wardlow, Bonnie Davidson, Ann Wann and Kathy Woods.
For many years the large oil tanks of the Great Northern Railway Co. had stood along the waterfront in the Maple Heights area. With the changing of fuel for locomotives, the tanks were no longer needed and were being dismantled after standing idle for some time.
25 years ago (1981)
Recession-plagued restaurants were finding the number of meals eaten out down 3 percent to 20 percent. Sixteen eateries in Snohomish County had closed in the past year.
