Dressed in Pilgrim-style garb and bearing gifts of food for the needy, nearly 200 people took part in a special Thanksgiving service at the First Congregational Church. Seven bushel baskets were filled with food. Pastor William Wright and assistant pastor Al Hieb conducted the traditional service.
Roast turkey with oyster dressing, squash, sweet potatoes, succotash, apple juice, fresh butter, homemade bread and venison were all part of a Thanksgiving feast that took place in Bill Watson’s and Linda Knight’s fifth-grade classrooms at Jefferson School. The occasion was a re-enactment of the country’s first Thanksgiving.
