Several Everett Golf and Country Club golfers were participating in the Washington State Amateur tournament at Sand Point in Seattle. Ann Quast would defend her championship. Others playing in the tournament were Irene Stephenson, Vera McKenzie, Betty O’Day, Jean Spencer, Mary Ward, Irene Hutchings, Dorothy Polglase, Helen Kendall and Lida Drumheller.
25 years ago (1981)
The East West All Star Football Game was scheduled to take place at Everett Memorial Stadium on Aug. 7. Jeff Leary was expected to make a good showing for the West team; at six feet tall and 170 pounds, the wide receiver from Mariner High School had been all-league quarterback and defensive back in his senior year.
Conklin’s Appliance on 196th Street in Lynnwood was having an inventory closeout. A Frigidaire refrigerator-freezer was $398, a General Electric 25-inch console color television was $499, and a Hotpoint dishwasher was $228.
