50 years ago (1956)
Everett’s new comprehensive land-use zoning ordinance was given its first reading before the City Council. It was designed to guide and regulate the future growth of the city and to prevent over-zoning of business and commercial districts.
Clarence Boyd of Snohomish and John Johnson of Mountlake Terrace were among the civilians from the Pacific Northwest who were guests of the Navy on a cruise of the USS Sperry from San Diego to Puget Sound.
25 years ago (1981)
Parents could register their children in the Central Cooperative Preschool serving Eastmont, Silver Lake and south Everett by calling Kerry Steward or Ruth Murphy. The preschool served children from age 21/2 through pre-kindergarten.
The Mukilteo Festival was here for the 15th time. The two-day event began with a flapjack feed at Rosehill School and closed with a traditional Northwest salmon bake over alder wood coals. Activities in between included a watermelon-eating contest, wheelbarrow race and a water balloon toss.
