Everett Junior College biology instructor Albert Canaris inspected a mammoth tooth and tusk discovered by student Cliff Schumacher of Clinton near the ferry dock at Columbia Beach. Schumacher said an even larger tooth was washed out by the tide before he could recover it.
Everett Elks Lodge employee Walt Johnson was honored by members on the advent of his 65th birthday. Johnson planned to retire after 25 years with the lodge. He was presented with a boat and a portable radio so he could fish and listen to baseball games at the same time.
Christie Gile of Everett and Hiep Thanh Nguyen of Edmonds were named girl and boy of the month by the Boys Clubs of Snohomish County. Gile was a 10th-grader at Everett High School and Nguyen was a 10th-grader at Edmonds High School.
The Snohomish School District was accepting bids on a $2.4 million project at Seattle Hill Elementary School. The 42,000-square-foot school would feature 21 classrooms, including a music room and library.
