50 years ago (1964)
Honored with a “This Is Your Life” tribute for her 43 years of teaching was Lessie Baker at Washington School PTA’s recent meeting. She was retiring at the end of the school year. Extending congratulations were three local men who were in her first kindergarten class in 1921, Bob Springer, Bill Hulbert and Joe Torrey.
Ralph Mackey of Everett Mountain Rescue Unit and speaker at the Exchange Club luncheon joined the club’s boys and Girls of the Month of May a the close of the program. The honorees were Sandy Stewart, Jan Wiggum, Steve Telms and Daniel Patzer.
15 years ago (1989)
Overall Laundry Service Inc. was moving its corporate headquarters to Everett from Seattle, according to company president Travis Keeler. Overall was to build a 75,000-square-foot headquarters and production plant at a site near Paine Field at 80th St. SW. The building was now under design.
The public would have a chance to comment today on proposed land-use changes that could someday allow shopping center north of Snohomish and light industrial development to the south near Harvey Field. The commercial-park designation might mean shopping centers in the Bickford Avenue corridor.
