The Bayview Unit of the Everett Garden Club was meeting for its annual garden tour at the home of Clara Christensen, 1931 Rucker Ave. Members would visit gardens in the north end and have dinner at the Paine Field Officers Club. Officer elections would be held.
Otto Rork of 2209 Cedar St. caught a 51/4-pound rainbow trout that he took from Lake Goodwin. Rork’s husky female trout fell for four salmon eggs on a No. 10 hook. He was using 1 1/2-pound test leader and had about 100 yards of line on his reel. Rork and Ben Weaves also caught a number of smaller fish on the trip.
Russ Jones, a student at Cascade High School, was a finalist in the high school mathematics competition sponsored by the Department of Pure and Applied Mathematics at Washington State University. The 23 finalists were chosen from more than 14,000 students in the state who had taken the annual mathematics examination in March.
Washington State University’s College of Agriculture presented scholarships at a banquet. Robin Hagen of Snohomish was named outstanding senior in agricultural economics.
